Life-Changing Reads

Facebook: Ellie Woodcock Instagram:_heyitselle Twitter:@heyitsellayyy

The people who know me personally will know that reading is a huge part of my life. I study English at university and if you can't find me, I usually have my head in a book somewhere. Here are the five books that changed the way I view people, myself, the world and life in general. I would definitely recommend every single one!

1. The Great Gatsby- F. Scott Fitzgerald
This book is my all time favourite, and I have read a LOT of books! This book is beautiful in every single way, how it's written, it's characters, the plot and what it teaches. It's a book about love, dreams, life and death and taught me that yes we should have dreams, but they shouldn't define us or our lives. In this book, love is both beautiful and destructive and it is told in the most gorgeous way. You'll never forget this read x
2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Stephen Chbosky
Another personal favourite that I've read multiple times because every single time it makes you feel warm inside. What I loved about this book, is that it stresses the importance of friendship and true friend, which isn't covered all too often within Literature. The format of the novel makes it so you feel just as part of Charlie's story as the characters on the page. The most uplifting and gorgeous book you'll ever read. I guarantee this book will make you laugh out loud and cry full fat tears, but by the end, you'll want to read it all over again.
3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone- J.K Rowling
So Harry Potter is kind of my life and I'm slightly obsessed, but this book was the start of it all. No book has ever changed my life like this one, it was the beginning of the most wonderful literary journey I've been on to date. It's a story of bravery, friendship, family, love and most importantly magic. You feel like a little kid again when you read this book because it is as if you live in Harry's world where you're making the amazing discovery with him. It's my favourite of the 7 by far because it's where it all started and yes, after all this time, always.
4. To Kill A Mockingbird- Harper Lee
I've only just recently read this book, which is shocking because it's a classic, and I can see why. It's a story that is told through the eyes of innocence, with issues that are still so relevant today. The questions of gender roles, equality and race are effectively answered with the simplicity and gorgeous nature of a child's character and suddenly, everything seems so simple. This book fills you with anger, upset and confusion and yet all the while still manages to evoke optimism, hope and happiness.
5. A Time to Speak- Helen Lewis
You've probably never heard of this book, but you should have because it's the most important one one the list. This is Helen Lewis' story, a survivor of the Holocaust who's story changed my life. I visited Auschwitz in February 2014 and it turned my world upside down. It changed the way I viewed the world and the human race, and this book did it all over again. These stories of survival are so important, not only so we can celebrate the courage and strength of humanity, but so we can pass these stories on. The contemporary relevance of the Holocaust is unbelievable, yet we as the younger generation must be the ones to take responsibility for telling these stories of both evil and bravery because those who witnessed it first hand are small in number and are decreasing rapidly. We owe it to them and those who lost their lives to make sure the Holocaust is never forgotten.

5 Summer Trends to nail this sunshine season!

With school over and the holiday season beginning, here are a few summer trends that will ensure you're stylish in the sunshine

1.Bell Sleeves
This summer is all about the Boho and 70's looks, so why not nail both with bell sleeves? They're great for the heat, as they're super light making sure you don't get all hot and bothered! This gorgeous black playsuit is from the beauties at Boohoo.com and also comes in a Terracotta colour. It's great for the day with sandals and a fringe bag or can be dressed up with lace-up heels and a colorful, embellished clutch. Get this now for the amazing price of just £12!
STYLE STEAL: Laura Whitmore and Millie Macintosh

2.Tan Suede Skirt
These skirts are everywhere on the high street and can be worn with almost anything! They're super versatile and can be dressed up or down. This piece also nails the Boho and 70's trend as well as providing a luxe feel to any outfit. A good quality one isn't cheap, but it is so worth it because it'll last you all through the Autumn too, paired with some wooly tights to keep off the autumn winds. The one to the right is beautiful, with a button down design that will set you back £39.99.
STYLE STEAL: Taylor Swift and Rosie Huntington- Whiteley

3. Tan Lace- Up Heels
This has to be my favourite of the current summer trends. These tan lace-ups are super comfy because the block heel provides more support than a normal heel. These are great to wear with jeans in the day or with any outfit in the evening. They transform any outfit from fab to fashion forward and have a lengthening effect on your legs which is always a bonus ladies! Get this lovely pair to the right from New Look for the reasonable price of £29.99
STYLE STEAL: Olivia Palermo and Kim Kardashian- West

4. Denim Dungarees
Denim everything is huge this summer from skirts, to dresses to dungarees. Dungarees are a great item to have in your wardrobe because they require no effort or styling at all. Throw any shirt underneath and your good to go! These are also great for festivals to look super fashionable but also to keep warm when the sun goes down at festivals for those long- awaited headliners at the end of the day! These are a gorgeous shape and are great quality as they're from trusty Asos! Get these for the great price of £45.00
STYLE STEAL:  Daisy Lowe and Alexa Chung

5. Scarf hair ties
This is the most simple and effective way to give your hair a fashion makeover this summer! Put your hair up in a ponytail then tie a flowing printed scarf and around it and voile, you've nailed the trend. This was a huge trend at Coachella this year and is super quick and cheap to achieve. Head down to your local charity shop or vintage store to get great scarves with great patterns, while paying next to nothing!
STYLE STEAL: Florence Welch and Vanessa Hudgens

I hope this guide of this Summer's trends has given you some style inspo for your summer wardrobes, but remember to add some of your own flair to these trends as there's nothing more stylish than individuality!

5 Top Tips to Decorate your Uni Room!

5 Top Tips to Decorate your Uni Room

Hey beauties! So as some of you may know, I'll be going in to my second year of university in September and I remember having this dilemma as to what you can and can't put on the walls or have in your room, so here's a few simple tips and ideas to make you feel right at home in your uni halls :)
*Key Tip- White Tack and Drawing Pins are an absolute must!
*Most uni halls don't allow candles or fairy lights in halls. Even though they look super pretty, your smoke damaged room will not.

1. LOADSSS of photos
Your embarrassing photos are the perfect way to decorate the walls of your room. Use White Tack and you'll avoid the marks on the walls that Blue Tack leaves. Photos remind you of home and all of your lovely friends back there and as the weeks go on, you can add your new uni friends to the wall too! Printing photos is so cheap these days, Boots is a great place to start but smaller photo shops are fab too :)

2. Posters
Posters are a great way to cover lots of space without spending loads of money or having to plan the layout of the 1000 photos you've printed. If decorating your room has slipped your mind when gathering other things like cutlery, tea towels and Tupperware, the Freshers Fare is the best place to get hold of posters. They're usually way cheaper than shops like HMV and they have some great designs! I picked up my Bellatrix Lestrange one to the left for £3, so go nuts and remember to use that trusty White Tack!

3. Wall Art/ Canvas
You're probably wondering why I seem to be telling you to throw away your room deposit by suggesting wall art or a canvas, but these brilliant adhesive hanging strips from Command to the left ensure you don't take half the paint off the wall or have to drill any holes in the walls! Canvas' have never been easier to hang with these, they leave no mark at all and keep your wondrous wall art in place. This gorgeous dream catcher framed art on the left is from The Range and is priced at the bargain price of £7.99. The Command strips are available from Staples and W H Smith.

4. When in doubt, buy bunting!
I am obsessed with anything floral, vintage and pastel coloured so the perfect thing to decorate my room was some lovely bunting. Sooo many places sell bunting now in all sorts of colours and patterns so they'll be something to match everyone's taste! And if you're super crafty and creative, you could try making your own to go with your colour scheme! I pegged some pictures between each point in my room and I had so many compliments about it!

5. Cushions!
For some reason, I love shopping for cushions. If you have a single bed at uni, 3 cushions would probably be an ideal number to have on your bed for those late night Netflix marathons you'll be having at 2 am (Trust me, it'll happen!)Also, they make your room look and feel more homely, as well as coming in handy for those afternoon naps you'll suddenly start taking once you get to uni! Cushions are super cheap these days with some gorgeous designs around. When mixing prints try to mix big and small patterns or modern and classic prints, it looks so much better than similar patterns. This beautiful Vintage Old World Map Cushion is from The Range again and is £5.99.

I hope this guide has been helpful beauties and that you have a great first year at uni, honestly, it is  brilliant!

July Beauty Favourites!

Facebook: Ellie Woodcock Instagram:_heyitselle Twitter:@heyitsellayyy
July  Beauty Favourites!
Hey lovelies! So here are a few things that I've been loving this month that you should definitely treat yourself to.

1. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara- £19.50
This is one of my favourite new products from the beauties at Benefit. The hype is honestly real about this mascara and it is soooo worth the money. The curved brush hugs your lashes and honestly makes you look as if you're wearing false lashes. I've had so many compliments while wearing this as it doesn't clump at all. Definitely worth saving for girls!

2. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick/Crayon
   (002 Bulletproof Beige)- £4.49
Every girl should have an eye shadow crayon in her
make-up bag because they're so quick and simple to apply! The Bulletproof Beige shade is perfect to use in your inner corner or across the whole lid and is
the cutest shade to match that summer glow!

3. Rimmmel Proffessional Eyebrow Pencil (002 Hazel)- £2.99
This is honestly the best brow pencil I've ever used, the handy brush on the lid is great for shaping and smoothing before application of the product. The pencil itself is super soft and applies beautifully. I'd recommend the Hazel shade for those of you with dark blonde to light brown hair and just this pencil in general!

4. BeterElite (44 Precision Powder Brush)-€15
   which is around £10.40
You've probably never heard of this brand before because I hadn't either! I bought this gorgeous brush whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria. (My beauty buying obsession knows no bounds!)I use this brush for my press powder and for blending with blusher and contour powder. The bristles are super soft which allows for a flawless, matte finish to your make-up look, all whilst getting a mini face message from the brush! Find this online at www.beter.es

5. L'Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Micellar Water
   -£4.99
This stuff is honestly heaven sent! It removes make-up better than anything I've ever used and leaves your skin feeling so fresh. A top tip girls is do not use face wipes unless absolutely necessary, they are so bad for your skin! Use this before bed each night with a few cotton wool pads and you'll feel fresh as a daisy before you settle down for your beauty sleep!

6. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (200 Soft Beige)
   -£9.00
If you watch any YouTube beauty bloggers, you will know how much everyone raves about this foundation! I would never use another foundation after using this one. It feels so light on your skin whilst still having flawless and full coverage. If like me, you hate not wearing make-up, it's also perfect to wear on holiday as it has a SPF of 15, so staying safe while looking sweet! Also, it smells beautiful!

I hope you liked this post lovelies, please leave any comments or feedback on posts you'd like me to do, all suggestions are welcomed!
Stay Beautiful,

 Hey lovely people!

I'm Ellie,19 from Sheffield.
A lover of fashion, make-up, shopping, bloggers, vloggers,  reading, Tumblring, grooving, cackling and Hermione Granger.

This is for all of you gorgeous wonders that ask me what foundation I use, or how I do my eye shadow, or where is that dress from, or how do you do that, or what are your interests, or how do I get through this.

This blog is for all of those fashion and beauty questions I had that couldn't be answered by either Zoella or Tanya Burr and for all of those other questions that I shamelessly googled because they seemed too silly to ask another human.

No matter why you've landed on this planet blog ladies, I want you all to know that you are beautiful. Even if you don't believe it, someone does.  No girl is ever told enough that  they are beautiful so, you're welcome:)

Happy perusing prinnies,
